How To Create Audiobooks with Kindle

Posted on Nov 5, 2010
Did you know that you can use your Kindle to create audiobooks? Follow along on this short tutorial to find out how.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Kindle, audio converter hardware/software, and a computer.
Let’s get started!
Make sure the ebook you want to convert has text to speech capability. Before purchasing an ebook through Amazon, you can check to see if Text to Speech is enabled for that ebook. Or, if you already own some some ebooks, press the AA button on your Kindle to see if the option is available. Sadly, all the pdf’s that I’ve opened up on my Kindle don’t have text to speech as an option.
Install the converter software and read up on how it works. I went with the one shown below which I picked up at Best Buy for $69.99 and it works great! (I have also been using this to convert old cassette tapes to MP3.)
Connect the audio jack of the Import device to your Kindle, and the USB end to your computer.
Open the software and follow the intuitive on screen instructions to save the new project.
Turn the text to speech on and test the audio levels, then record.
After recording is complete, you can create tracks, remove distortion, and then export as an MP3.
Now it’s time to load the MP3 to your ipod and enjoy your new audiobook!
